Friars Club Roast in Honor of Quentin Tarantino
On Friday, December 1, 2010, Writer-Director Quentin Tarantino will sit for his turn on the
roasting spit when the Friars Club hosts its annual, star-studded Celebrity Roast.
Quentin Tarantino has established himself as one of the most celebrated filmmakers of
his generation. His 2009 critically acclaimed Inglourious Basterds, with Brad Pitt and
Christoph Waltz, received eight Academy Award nominations including Best Director and
Best Screenplay nods for Tarantino.
His incredible body of work, which includes Grindhouse’s–Death Proof, Jackie Brown, Kill
Bill, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs and True Romance, among others, has earned him a
coveted and respected place among the film community.
The Friars Club Roast is the premier comedic event in the country offering uproarious
entertainment for over a century.
The Friars Roast format is unique because of the exuberant, sometimes bawdy and cutting-edge humor of the dais “Roasters.” It is the Guest of Honor who receives the backhanded accolades that makes this event a success.
Such legends as Humphrey Bogart, Milton Berle, Johnny Carson, Lucille Ball, Sid Caesar, Jerry Lewis, Bruce Willis, Chevy Chase, Richard Pryor, Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, Kelsey Grammer, Hugh Hefner, Donald Trump and Matt Lauer have all been skewered.
But the Friars motto of “We always Roast the ones we love!” have endeared these honorees to the Friars.
